An open letter to all U.S. Governors was sent out by a collection of 14 health organizations on Monday. The letter, reposted on Benzinga today, was sent to encourage the governors of medical marijuana states to recognize cannabis as a needed medicine and to designate cannabis dispensaries and producers as essential services.

Cannabis Letter to Governors

The letter, signed by the 14 health
below, was meant to amplify a previous letter, sent by the
patient advocacy group, Americans for Safe Access (ASA). It asks the governors
and program directors of medical marijuana states to deem cannabis
as a necessary medicine
and the suppliers of legal medical cannabis as essential
services, during the Covid-19
. The letter goes on to express the organizations’ concern that if their
recommendation is not taken, those who need medical marijuana will be forced to
purchase untested, uncontrolled product on the illicit market.

The organizations that signed the letter are:

  • AIDS United
  • Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center
  • CenterLink: The Community of LGBT Centers
  • Compass LGBTQ Community Center
  • Drug Policy Alliance
  • Harm Reduction Coalition
  • Marijuana Policy Project
