We’ve all heard of insomnia – the condition that keeps a person from sleeping, but there is a sub-category of insomnia called painsomnia that isn’t talked about as much. According to an article on The GrowthOp, painsomnia is basically insomnia caused by chronic pain. The article quotes Dr. Ben Nowell and Dawn Gibson who coined the term and have conducted a case study on the condition.

Painsomnia and Cannabis

According to the article, painsomnia is a vicious cycle of waking up from pain and not being able to get back to sleep, and then the pain becoming worse over time from lack of sleep. Many people find relief from both pain and insomnia in cannabis and CBD.

Dr. Peter Ginspoon, professor at Harvard Medical School is quoted as saying, “CBD is commonly used to address anxiety, and for patients who suffer through the misery of insomnia, studies suggest that CBD may help with both falling asleep and staying asleep.” And of course, both marijuana and CBD have been shown to aid pain sufferers without the use of opioids or other drugs.
